According to the World Health Organization (WHO), chlorination is the best guarantee of water microbiologically drinkable.

 

Chorine as such or in the form of sodium or calcium hypochlorite is still the only product able to guarantee that the water remains disinfected all the way from the treatment plant to the end user.

 

Thanks to its properties, sodium and calcium hypochlorite are highly effective against all types of microbes that can be contained in water – including bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeasts, and algae and slime which proliferate within supply pipes and storage tanks.

 

The need of sodium or calcium hypochlorite solutions to replace chorine gas for chlorination is increasing significantly due to a strict regulation related with the transport of liquid chlorine and its storage; as well as public concern about chorine gas utilization.

 

Production plants developed by KERN respond to a need which now arises at world level. This need is the industrial production “in situ” of small volumes of sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, chorine caustic soda and hydrochloric acid.

 

 

¤ Sodium hypochlorite

 

KERN has an innovative technology for the production in situ of sodium hypochlorite (5% to 15% of active chorine) which consists of a new bipolar membrane electrolyzer (mercury-free). Production plants with this technology have the following characteristics:

  • Range of production: 800-40,000 kg/day of sodium hypochlorite 12,5%
  • Modulation capacity of production: 40-100%
  • Easy to install and operate
  • Safe and with zero environmental impact
  • Modular and scalable
  • Low investment required
  • Cost savings (low operation and maintenance costs) and higher energy efficiency

¤ Calcium hypochlorite

 

KERN has an innovative technology for the production of calcium hypochlorite, from chlorine, generated by a bipolar membrane electrolyzer (mercury-free), and lime. Production plants with this technology have the following characteristics:

¤ Chlorine caustic soda

 

KERN has an innovative technology for the production “in situ” of chlorine caustic soda which consists of a new bipolar membrane electrolyzer (mercury-free). Production plants with this technology have the following characteristics:

  • Range of production: 100-5,000 kg/day of chorine
  • Caustic soda concentration: 32% membrane quality (it can be concentrated up to 50%)
  • Modulation capacity of production: 40-100%

¤ Hydrochloric acid

 

KERN has an innovative technology for the production of purified hydrochloric acid using chlorine and hydrogen, generated by a bipolar membrane electrolyzer. Production plants with this technology have the following characteristics:

  • Range of production: from 1.4 Tn/day of 100% hydrochloric acid
  • Hydrochloric acid concentration: 33% at 40ºC
  • High quality of the purified synthesis hydrochloric acid
